The theme of ‘Home’ appeared repeatedly throughout this series of paintings. The rows of granite cottages that had belonged to the tin miners were clearly manifest. ‘Patches of Blue Sky’ (Level 1 decipher) depicts a row of such cottages against a green, boulder scattered landscape. The hillside behind is more reminiscent of moss growing on large stone outcrops or ‘spoil heaps’ rather than fields or moorland. The brilliance of blue sea and sky is reflected in the air itself directly above the dwellings.
